Malans Peak Hike, Ogden, Utah
View from the top of Malans Peak
After a week of climbing in Maple Canyon, Utah, Mike and I were looking to give our hands and arms a break before we headed up to City of Rocks for some more climbing. We would be passing through Ogden, Utah and decided to do a hike just outside of town one morning. We parked at the 29th Street Trailhead and set out on the hike. This hike quickly starts gaining elevation and doesn’t stop until the top. We made our way over to the trail that runs along Taylor Creek and followed the trail upstream.
At an elevation around 5500 ft, we turned right and headed up the trail that would switchback up to Malans Peak. I was happy I had trekking poles for this portion of the hike. We saw quite a few people, which isn’t surprising considering the proximity of this hike to town. Once at the top, we stopped for a short break and then headed back down the way we came. On the way down we passed a juvenile rattlesnake so those are definitely worth keeping an eye out for on this hike! It was a great way to start the day and we were back at the car by lunch.
Total Stats: 5.4 miles, 2100 ft of elevation gain
